So I went back to what I knew best.
I did nothing.

As I was doing nothing, I reflected on every out-of-control tactic I invested in. Trying to figure out if there were even the littlest of value in what I learned.
Ya, some of the tactics had some value.
But most were a shitshow. I was still out of control with my marketing and I needed to stop the problem before it got worse.
I had to dig deeper by asking myself the important questions:
- What about marketing makes me feel lost & out of control?
- When my marketing is lost what does it look like?
- When my marketing is found what does it look like?
- When my marketing is out of control what does it look like?
- When my marketing is under control what does it look like?
I realized that what works for some people will not work for me.
I realized something quickly and I am going to point it out, so spare my if you become offended. Those “I made a million dollars, now I am showing you what I did!” tactics you see in social media are all bullshit. No matter how much ‘social proof’ they provide, they are complete garbage because they are all missing the fundamental pieces of marketing.

A $300 TikTok Secret that will increase your followers in 30 days will not work for you if your target audience is not on this platform.
A $2000 LinkedIn “I’ll get you 50 meetings a month” strategy is not going to work if your audience isn’t listening to what you say.
A $1000 per month Google Ad spend is not going to work if you are saying the same copy-paste sales pitches everyone else says.
A $500 per month templated all-in-one website solution that makes your business operations easier will not work if you are templating your look and messaging like all the other clients of this SaaS product.
You can quickly lose control of your marketing by falling for these “made-easy” marketing tactics. I know I did.
Marketing is not easy.
Marketing requires strategy, focus, diligence and patience.
Those elements require time and thought.
Ask deeper questions:

How I regained control of my automotive marketing.
I spent a number of years fixing my marketing and I will tell you, what I have collectively learned has helped me control my marketing.
Marketing has become fun.
The moment I faced the truths about marketing and spent the time and energy to fix it for good, I began to have fun with my marketing.
My website messaging and design is on point. The lead magnet journey I created is perfect.
Cold email outreach became a treasure hunt. My unique selling proposition says exactly what I want to my desired audience. So when I send emails, I am excited for the treasures I find: conversations, interest, yes’s and no’s.
When I write blogposts and email newsletters, I can write with intent. I know what to say, how to say it and how much to share to create conversations.
When I post on social media, all the content I have written is pure gold when busted up into smaller bite-sized pieces.
All of my efforts in branding my business, understanding my audience, crafting messages that work and applying the right marketing tactics have helped me regain control my marketing.
I have seen what it looks like when my marketing was out of control.
I am not going back there ever again.
